On August 20, another evacuation train from the Kharkiv region arrived in Zhytomyr. Twenty-seven people arrived in the Zhytomyr region: 16 men, 10 women, and one child, all of whom were forced to leave their homes due to the war.

Among those evacuated were 17 people from the Donetsk region who arrived from a transit center. They are residents of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Mykolaivka. They will be housed in Zhytomyr at the facilities of the nonprofit organization “Grani Mozhlyvoho.” Another 10 residents of the Kharkiv region with limited mobility will receive the necessary care and will be housed in a medical facility.

At the train station, the evacuees were met by representatives of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration, specialists from the State Emergency Service, medical workers, and representatives of charitable and civic organizations. The evacuees were provided with necessary assistance, escorted to their destinations, and their further accommodation was arranged.

The Zhytomyr region continues to be a region that takes in people forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression. Currently, 73,600 internally displaced persons are registered in the region. Among them are 16,100 children, 4,200 people with disabilities, 31,200 working-age individuals, and 15,400 retirees. The region is also home to 117 large families with IDP status.

Every evacuation is about more than just moving people to a safer place. It is about support, humanity, and a willingness to help those who have lost their normal lives due to the war. Zhytomyr Oblast continues to work to ensure that every person arriving in the region receives the necessary assistance, a safe place to live, and a sense of support.
