As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” the Bakhmut community, together with the Hirsk, Illinivka, and Aidar communities, as well as the NGO “IDPs of Ukraine,” created a special art space in Poltava. The Poltava City Council’s Center for Culture and Leisure brought together communities from Donetsk and Luhansk regions for this joint event.
On this day, the boundaries between the regions disappeared. Each team set up its own space where it could showcase its homeland, share its story with the people of Poltava and their neighbors, and convey a piece of home through culture, creative workshops, and lively conversation.
The atmosphere was bustling with life. Residents of Bakhmut and event guests signed postcards with warm wishes for strangers, crafted symbolic accessories, and made traditional jewelry. Together, they cut a fragrant loaf of bread—an ancient symbol of hospitality and a shared home.
Participants also took commemorative photos near a themed display featuring Vyacheslav Chornovil—a man for whom a free Ukraine became his life’s work.
One of the most significant moments was the unveiling of the “Freedom” memorial plaque dedicated to the defenders of Ukraine’s skies. Performances by artists from Poltava added a particularly emotional touch to the occasion.
