On the eve of Ukraine’s Defenders’ Day, a special gathering took place for people united by a common goal: to stand by those who defend Ukraine and to support their families.
Social protection specialists from the Bakhmut and Kremenchuk municipal communities held an online meeting titled “Together Toward Victory—Supporting Defenders and Their Families” as part of the “Side by Side: United Communities” project.
This meeting provided an opportunity to share best practices, discuss challenges, and collaboratively seek solutions that help defenders, veterans, and their family members receive the necessary assistance.
Representatives from the Bakhmut community presented their own experience in organizing social and veteran support in the context of displacement, while representatives from the Kremenchuk community shared practical approaches to working with defenders, veterans, and their families.
Particular attention was paid to social services, counseling, material assistance, and other targeted forms of aid. They spoke openly about problematic issues, real-life situations, and possible ways to resolve them.
For the Bakhmut community, which continues to work for its residents despite forced displacement, it is extremely important to have reliable partners. And the Kremenchuk community is exactly that kind of partner—open to dialogue, cooperation, and mutual support.
This is precisely where the strength of “Side by Side” lies—in exchanging experiences and ideas, supporting one another, and sharing responsibility for the people.
