International Children’s Book Day is a special occasion to reflect on the power of reading in shaping a child’s worldview, imagination, values, and love for their native language. Books open up a world of knowledge to young readers, helping them navigate complex emotions and find answers to important questions.

Today, this holiday takes on special significance for libraries operating amid war and forced evacuation. The Donetsk Regional Children’s Library, together with libraries across the region, continues to fulfill its vital mission: providing children with access to books and creating spaces for development, communication, and intellectual growth.

Despite all the challenges, libraries have not ceased their activities. They organize online readings, creative gatherings, and interactive events, introduce children to contemporary Ukrainian literature, and foster a love of reading. Even while far from home, libraries preserve their identity and continue to serve their youngest readers, uniting them around the Ukrainian language and fostering resilience, faith, and hope.

International Children’s Book Day reminds us of the importance of supporting children’s reading and the need to create accessible and engaging environments for the development of children’s literary interests, especially in challenging circumstances when books become a source of knowledge, inspiration, and creativity for them.
