Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are among the most commonly requested diagnostic tests.
That is why the National Health Service of Ukraine (NSZU) has created a new dashboard, “Statistics on Imaging Examinations (CT/MRI) in the Electronic Health Care System (ESOS),” which will help provide a better understanding of how these services are provided in Ukraine.
The dashboard contains aggregated information on all CT and MRI scans, the data for which has been entered into the Electronic Health Care System (ESOS). The information is updated twice a month.
What can you learn from the dashboard? Using the dashboard, you can view:
- how many CT and MRI scans were performed during the selected period;
- how many patients underwent these examinations;
- how the number of examinations has changed over time;
- in which regions, communities, and facilities CT and MRI scans were performed;
- how many CT and MRI machines are registered in the EHS;
- how examinations are distributed by day of the week and time of day.
For user convenience, the data can be filtered by region, community, healthcare facility, type or name of the examination, funding source (free of charge under the PMG or other programs/paid services), and the period during which the examination was performed.
How will the dashboard be useful to patients?
The dashboard will help users determine in which regions and healthcare facilities CT and MRI scans are performed, based on data from the Unified Health Information System (ESOZ). This can serve as a useful guide when searching for a facility that offers the necessary scan.
At the same time, it is important to understand that the dashboard is not a service for scheduling appointments.
It does not show:
- whether there are available slots for appointments;
- the operating hours of the CT or MRI suite;
- whether the equipment is currently operational;
- whether a specific examination can be obtained free of charge on a particular day.
You must verify this information directly with the medical facility. It is also important to note that the dashboard displays only those examinations for which information has been entered into the ESOS.
The “active equipment” indicator means that the CT or MRI machine is registered in the ESOS and is not marked as broken or malfunctioning. This does not mean that this specific machine was used for a particular examination or is operational at the time the dashboard is viewed.
The statistics include only those types of CT and MRI scans that are listed in the National Classifier of Medical Interventions (NK:026:2021). You can view the list of examinations by clicking the “i” icon at the top of the dashboard.
The new dashboard will help patients better understand how CT and MRI services are provided in Ukraine based on ESOS data, as well as help them find out where they can undergo an examination.

Open data makes the healthcare system even more transparent. From now on, patients can independently obtain information about the availability of CT and MRI scans, better plan their examinations, and make informed decisions about which medical facility to choose.
