State Program for Creating Workplaces for People with Disabilities in Action: Veterans from Donetsk Region Return to Work

Published 07 August 2025 year, 14:44

On August 6, Acting Director of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center, Nataliia Adamova, met with Volodymyr — a war veteran who became disabled while performing combat missions and is now employed in the recently de-occupied city of Sviatohirsk.

Step by step, peaceful life is returning to the city. Alongside the restoration of infrastructure and economic recovery, new job opportunities are emerging. The Donetsk Employment Service is actively collaborating with local authorities, employers, and civil society organizations to support the community and provide employment for its residents.

One example of this collaboration is the employment of veteran Volodymyr at the Department of Social Protection of the Sviatohirsk City Council. After undergoing treatment and receiving a Group II disability status, he chose to return to an active life and help others.

His employer took advantage of the state program that compensates the cost of workplace accommodations for people with disabilities. Thanks to the program, modern computer equipment was purchased, creating a comfortable working environment. All stages — from consultations to paperwork — were supported by employment service specialists.

For veterans, returning to work means more than just financial stability — it is a restoration of self-belief, a sense of purpose, and confidence in the future.

The Donetsk Employment Service reminds employers that the compensation program for workplace accommodations for people with disabilities is still active. It provides not only financial support but also contributes to the development of workplaces, communities, and the country as a whole.
