"Children Should Not Have to Live Under Shelling": Families with Young Children Are Being Evacuated from the Kramatorsk Community

Published 18 August 2026 year, 17:11

The children hardly ever leave the yard because drones are constantly flying overhead and KABs are exploding on neighboring streets. To protect the lives of their youngest children, families are agreeing to evacuate. This time, police officers evacuated two families with three children. They are currently safe.

Russian troops shell settlements in the Donetsk region daily. KABs, multiple-launch rocket system strikes, and attacks by FPV drones are making life increasingly dangerous for civilians in frontline communities. As a result, the forced evacuation of families with children from settlements in the Kramatorsk community and certain streets in Kramatorsk is ongoing. To protect the children, “White Angel” crews, together with volunteers, juvenile prevention workers, and the State Security Service, evacuate families every day.

During one such trip from the village of Horodyshchyno, police officers evacuated a mother named Inna along with her two young sons—9-year-old Mark and 2-year-old Yaroslav. Volunteers found a private home for the family in a safer region. So, during the evacuation, they also took along 10 turkeys, 10 chickens, and the family’s beloved cat.

From Bilenke, where FPV drones fly and KABs explode every day, police evacuated Natalia and her 14-year-old son, Viktor. The woman admits that because of constant fear, her child hardly ever left the yard.

“It’s scary—they’re flying around all the time. My son only played in the yard. Almost all the families with children in our area have already left,” says Natalia.

Law enforcement officials are urging residents of frontline towns not to risk their children’s lives and to leave for safer regions of Ukraine as soon as possible.
