The Donetsk Regional Council, in connection with the "Order of St. Panteleimon" award, announces the winners of the regional selection round for the 2025–2026 season.
In the “Best Doctor – Professional Role Model” category, the winner of the regional selection is Dmytro Uzun, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Radiovascular Surgery at the Mariupol City Clinical Hospital, chief freelance specialist in cardiac surgery for the Donetsk Regional State Administration, a member of the board of the “Association of Cardiac Surgeons of Ukraine,” and a member of the European Society of Interventional Cardiologists.
An experienced specialist in the region, the country, and abroad. A talented physician with over 6,000 surgeries and endovascular diagnostic procedures on the heart and blood vessels to his credit. It was Dmytro Uzun who pioneered many modern techniques in eastern Ukraine: from TAVI valve replacement to innovative treatments for stroke patients.
Following the temporary occupation of Donetsk in 2016, he successfully established a regional cardiac surgery service in Kramatorsk. Monthly visits by department specialists to Mariupol, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Selidovo, and Bakhmut were also organized.
In 2018, monthly consultations by department specialists were organized and launched in the Luhansk region: in Lysychansk, Rubizhne, and Sievierodonetsk.
Dmytro Uzon has been instrumental in establishing and launching the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Vascular Service, the treatment of patients with acute ischemia and embolism of the extremities, the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and the creation of Ukraine’s first regular referral pathway for patients with acute coronary syndrome based on an extraterritorial principle.
In 2021, Dmytro initiated the inclusion of the Kramatorsk Regional Territorial Medical Association in the Ministry of Health of Ukraine’s pilot project on transplantology.
In 2025, he became the first doctor in Ukraine to use wireless methods to assess the functional significance of coronary artery stenosis in clinical practice. He has completed internships at leading European clinics and is a regular speaker at national congresses across Ukraine.
Winning the “Best Doctor – Professional Role Model” award at the regional level is not merely recognition, but a testament to thousands of lives saved and a constant pursuit of excellence. We congratulate Dmytro Uzon and wish him new professional heights and the receipt of the coveted “Order of St. Panteleimon” award!
