On March 6, representatives of the Donetsk Regional State Administration took part in the fifteenth meeting of the Commission on Hero Policy and Support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine. The meeting was chaired by Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting reviewed the conceptual framework of the draft Veterans Code and discussed the introduction of a nationwide lesson of remembrance in educational institutions. This initiative will help students learn more about the biographies and contributions of fallen defenders of Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to improving legislation in the field of burial. Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Shevchenko stressed the need to develop amendments to the Procedure for the reburial at the National Military Memorial Cemetery of those soldiers who died defending Ukraine's sovereignty and are currently buried in the zone of active hostilities. He stressed that for the regional authorities and territorial communities of Donetsk Oblast, honoring the memory of their fellow countrymen remains an unconditional priority.

The participants also considered amendments to regulatory acts aimed at strengthening state support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Systematic work on the legislative framework and the involvement of communities in the development of new standards will make it possible to create an effective mechanism for the social protection of veterans and the proper honoring of the deeds of each hero.
