On 21-22 February, on the International Mother Language Day, the first online radio dictation of respect and devotion to the Ukrainian language #Живі_слова (Living Words) took place, initiated by the Donetsk Regional Library for Children with the support of the Donetsk Regional State Administration. This year, the text chosen was Tymofiy Bordulyak's ‘Home’, which to a certain extent embodies the dream of all residents of Donetsk Oblast.
Anyone who wished to do so had the opportunity to take part in the event over two days, listening to the audio recording of the dictation and writing it down at a convenient time of day and at a pace that suited them.
The Donetsk Regional Library for Children received 106 entries from participants of all ages. The level of proficiency in the Ukrainian language was impressive and once again confirmed the obvious truth about the deep Ukrainian identity of Donetsk residents. Of course, there were mistakes, and there were works created with the help of online assistants, but this rather testifies to a sincere desire to improve one's knowledge and develop one's native language.
The winners were selected in three categories by age group, namely the adult group (adults), the middle group (students) and the junior group (schoolchildren).
In the senior group, the award went to Valentina Pashkevich, deputy director for educational work at Liman Lyceum No. 1 of the Liman City Council (Liman, Donetsk region).
In the middle group, the winner was Denys Kozienko, a first-year student at the SFK KAI (Kramatorsk, Donetsk region).
In the junior group, the winner was Olena Vinnyk, a 6th grade student at ZZSO I-III degrees No. 20 of the Toretsk City VCA in the Bakhmut district of the Donetsk region.
The winners will receive diplomas and interesting books, which will be sent by post. To receive their prizes and resolve any technical issues, winners are asked to write to the Donetsk Regional Library for Children at [email protected].
All participants in the radio dictation of respect and devotion to the Ukrainian language #Живі_слова will receive certificates of appreciation, which can be downloaded at https://surl.li/eeyneh
