On 11 June, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre (Mariupol) set off for the BABEL F.A.S.T 2026 international theatre festival in the Romanian city of Târgoviște, located near Bucharest.

This is not the theatre’s first time participating in the festival. Since 2023, the troupe has been a regular participant in the international artistic dialogue, representing Ukrainian culture and telling the world about the events our country is going through.

BABEL F.A.S.T is an international theatre festival bringing together artists from 20 countries around the world. It is a space created for the meeting of different cultures, traditions and creative perspectives, fostering mutual understanding between nations through art.

On 12 June, the theatre’s actors will present the play ‘The Line’ to an international audience, directed by Canadian director Christopher Morris, who has granted the rights to stage this production free of charge. The playwright is donating the royalties for the play to the Ukrainian charity ‘City of Good’.

‘The Line’ is a deeply moving story that explores the consequences of the war for Ukraine’s independence and the tragedy of Mariupol through the lives of individuals, their experiences, losses and struggle to preserve their humanity.

Participation in the festival is an important opportunity to remind the world once again of Ukraine, its culture and its resilience. Despite the loss of its home stage and forced relocation, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theatre (Mariupol) continues to work actively, representing Ukrainian art on international stages.

We wish all festival participants every success in their creative endeavours and are rooting for a worthy representation of Ukraine on the international stage.
