Energy Independence for Small Businesses: Government Support Opportunities

Published 18 February 2026 year, 13:01

State support instruments enable entrepreneurs not only to invest in development, but also to ensure stable business operations in conditions of increased risk.

“Energy Support for Sole Proprietors” is an initiative aimed at supporting entrepreneurs who are already conducting business activities and seek to ensure the autonomy of their enterprises. It provides an opportunity to purchase alternative or backup power equipment — including generators, energy storage systems, and other solutions for uninterrupted operation.

Entrepreneur Sonia Nahapetian from Sloviansk has been steadily developing her retail business in eyewear and related products, providing community residents with access to quality optics and basic vision screening services.

After becoming a winner of the state grant program “Own Business”, she invested the funds in specialized diagnostic equipment. The device allows for vision examinations, detection of potential impairments, and primary diagnostics for children and elderly people, with referrals to specialized professionals when necessary. This has improved customer service quality and expanded the range of services offered.

The next step was participation in the “Energy Support for Sole Proprietors” program. Amid rising electricity costs and an unstable energy situation, maintaining operational continuity and financial resilience is critically important for small businesses. The funds received were used to cover electricity expenses — a key resource for operating modern diagnostic equipment and ensuring uninterrupted customer service.

Applications for participation in the “Energy Support for Sole Proprietors” program are submitted through the Diia portal: https://diia.gov.ua/services/dopomoha-fop-na-enerhostiikist. Entrepreneurs may receive up to UAH 15,000 to strengthen their business energy resilience. The amount depends on the number of hired employees.

Who is eligible?

Sole proprietors (Group 2 or 3) registered no later than December 1, 2025;

Have at least one hired employee;

Have no arrears in paying the unified social contribution (USC).

What can the funds be used for?

The grant may be spent on anything that provides energy: from fuel for generators to solar panels, batteries, inverters and their installation, or payment for electricity supply services.

Program period: February–March 2026.
