For people who, due to their age or health condition, are unable to care for themselves, the most pressing challenge following evacuation from frontline areas remains their subsequent resettlement. They need decent living conditions, care, and support.

In August and September 2026, more than 100 evacuees received long-term nursing care services in the Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Odesa, and other regions.

This was made possible through the collaboration between the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation and the Ministry of Social Policy, which provides for temporary stays in medical facilities for up to 60 days. During this period, people receive long-term nursing care services, which include lodging and meals, as well as psychological support.

The service was provided to men and women aged 50 to 92 from Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kherson, Sloviansk, Vasylkivka, and other frontline cities and villages. Among them were people with limited mobility.

For 85-year-old Antonina Mikhailovna, the journey to safety began on July 2 in Kramatorsk. She had suffered a stroke. A team from the “Skhid SOS” Charitable Foundation evacuated her from the hospital’s medical ward to a transit center in Lozova. From there, she was taken to the “Ocean of Goodness” Center for Social Adaptation of People with Disabilities, a nonprofit organization in Dnipro. While Antonina was recovering, the foundation’s specialists helped her replace her lost documents. At the same time, the search for a place for her to settle permanently continued. She is now under reliable care at the Bilohirsk Hospital.

The long-term nursing care service is a program that provides those in need—following evacuation—with comprehensive daily support: from psychological support to medical care and assistance from social workers. The service is fully funded by the Ministry of Social Policy.

It is the social workers who help determine her future place of residence and support plan, taking into account her individual needs. To this end, other social services may be provided, or arrangements may be made for her relocation to temporary housing or long-term care facilities.
