The final of the Donetsk Region Climbing Cup for school-age youth “RockCup” has concluded.
The competition was organized by the Donetsk Regional Center for Tourism and Local History for Youth in cooperation with the municipal institution “Kirovohrad Regional Center for Tourism, Local History and Excursions for Youth.”
Despite the difficult conditions of wartime, the event was successfully held in a remote format. This approach made it possible to unite young athletes from different regions of Ukraine. A total of 13 teams from three regions — Donetsk, Odesa and Sumy — took part. In all, the competition brought together 75 young climbers.
This year, participants competed in the bouldering discipline. On the Google Classroom platform, videos were posted showing the judge climbing specific routes on the climbing wall and demonstrating the sequence of movements.
The task of the young athletes was to carefully analyze the video and mark in a special form all the holds the judge touched with his hands. This assessed their attentiveness, technical thinking and ability to read a route — essential skills in climbing.
Winners in their age categories were children from the Velykonovosilkivska territorial community:
Anna Myrna, Stanislav Kovalenko, Oleksandra Severyn, Maksym Balzhi, Khrystyna Pankova, Oleksii Yarovyi, Alina Mazhan.
The results clearly show that sport continues to develop even in wartime conditions, and young athletes of Donetsk region demonstrate a high level of preparation, perseverance and a strong desire to win.
