On May 1-2, Odesa hosted the final 14th round of the 2025/2026 Ukrainian men’s Super League handball championship, which determined the competition’s medalists.
The season, which began in September, featured 112 matches held in Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Poltava, Uzhhorod, Lviv, Rivne and Brovary. The matches between the eight teams were marked by intense competition and provided fans with plenty of thrilling moments.
The “Donbas” handball players, representing the School of higher sportsmanship in Donetsk oblast, earned 61 points over 28 matches and won bronze medals. Zaporizhzhia’s “Motor” became the Ukrainian Super League champion for the 14th consecutive time, achieving a perfect record of 84 points (28 wins). The “silver” was won for the fourth consecutive year by the “Odessa” team from the city of the same name, which earned 65 points.
In the Donetsk Oblast team, led by coaches Ivan Fuchedzhy, Mykola Sharko and Serhiy Gordiyenko, the top scorers were: Vitaliy Psol (180 goals), Oleksandr Misyailo (132), Volodymyr Kara (112), Vadym Polishchuk (95), Oleksiy Zayets (94) and Bohdan Kurmaz (88). Goalkeepers Oleksandr Sles and Eduard Boyko, as well as field players Kyrylo Korielov, Oleksandr Zvierkov, Vasyl Snigur, Yaroslav Ruban, Vitaliy Shcherbakov and Ivan Shylo, also contributed to the team’s bronze medal win.
At the end of the season, “Donbas” head coach and honored coach of Ukraine Ivan Fuchedzhy received an award as the league’s best coach.
This season’s Super League awards marked a milestone – the 20th in the club’s history. In total, Donetsk region handball team has won the Ukrainian championship three times (1996, 1997, 2002), taken silver four times (2004, 2020, 2021, 2022), and has won the bronze 13 times (1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2018, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026).
