From the very start of the full-scale invasion, teachers from educational institutions in the Pokrovsk community were among the first to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They have walked a difficult path in the fight for Ukraine’s freedom, defending their homeland from the aggressor. Courageous, brave, and devoted to their calling as educators, they have now returned to their professional duties.
An engaging online meeting between students from educational institutions in the Pokrovsk community and veteran teachers was recently organized by Lyceum No. 6 and Gymnasium No. 5. Teachers from Pokrovsk Lyceum No. 6 shared heartfelt stories with the students:
- Dmytro Momot—an English teacher who traded educational audio materials for the sounds of combat orders while commanding a rifle company of the National Guard of Ukraine.
- Oleksandr Bezuglyi—a history teacher and senior soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose experience is now grounded not only in dates but also in his own combat history.
- Andriy Kucheryavyi—a physical education teacher and senior rifleman in the National Guard of Ukraine, who knows from personal experience what true endurance and the tempering of the spirit in battle really mean.
The veteran teachers answered numerous questions from the students. They spoke about how the war taught them to value life even more. And they emphasized how important it is for young people to build the future for which Ukraine’s defenders are fighting today.
This is true national-patriotic education—when the daily example for children is set by people who have proven their devotion to the country not with words, but with deeds.
