We are preparing for school responsibly: check your child's vaccination today!

Published 15 July 2025 year, 09:55

Every year before the start of the school year, parents prepare their children for school: they buy notebooks, uniforms, and backpacks. However, an equally important step is to check the status of vaccinations according to the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations. Vaccination protects the child from dangerous infections that can easily spread in the school environment — among them are measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, poliomyelitis, and hepatitis B.

Unfortunately, due to military actions, migration, or quarantine restrictions, some children have missed their scheduled vaccine doses. This creates a risk of outbreaks of diseases in children's groups. We draw parents' attention: before September 1, be sure to consult a pediatrician or family doctor to check your child's vaccinations. If there are missed doses, the doctor will help create an individual schedule for catching up.

A 6-year-old child going to school should receive planned revaccination according to the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations. According to the calendar, a child of this age needs to receive:

- the second dose of the combined vaccine MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) — to strengthen immunity;
- revaccination against diphtheria and tetanus (DTP) — to maintain protection;
- revaccination against poliomyelitis (OPV) — to reinforce immunity to the infection.

If necessary, the doctor may additionally prescribe the whooping cough vaccine (the fifth component of the combined vaccine or separately — Infanrix/Bustrix) at the request of the parents.

All preventive vaccinations for children according to the calendar in Ukraine are provided free of charge, funded by the state budget. You can find out about the number of vaccines in healthcare facilities in the Donetsk region on the website of the State Institution "DONETSK CENTER FOR PUBLIC HEALTH" at the link State Institution "DONETSK CENTER FOR PUBLIC HEALTH"

Do not postpone your visit to the doctor — it is better to get vaccinated in advance than to deal with the consequences of illness.

A child with a complete vaccination schedule has a better chance of staying healthy throughout the school year. Let's protect our children together — let's start the school year safely!
