Initiatives that preserve heritage: ethnic communities of Greek origin will receive grant support

Published 27 November 2025 year, 17:27

The NGO "Nadazov Greeks: Urumi and Rumei" with the initiative "Native Language of Nadazov Greeks" and the NGO "Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine" with the project "Platform for the Unification of Greeks in Ukraine" will receive state grant support.

The State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience held an open defense of competitive proposals from public associations of national minorities in Ukraine submitted for state grant support.

The meeting of the Competition Commission was held in a mixed format and brought together community representatives, experts, and commission members around a common goal: to support cultural, linguistic, and educational diversity in Ukraine. The commission decided to support the projects that will receive grants.

"The Urum language: the first teaching materials in Ukraine" — this project was presented by the NGO "Nadazov Greeks: Urums and Rumai." The initiative "Native Language of the Nadazov Greeks" involves the creation of the first printed manual, workbook, and literary collection in the Urum language — a step of historical significance for supporting the linguistic identity of the Nadazov Greeks after the massive military losses of their communities.

The Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine will create a single online platform for the Greek community in Ukraine. The platform will include a new website, an interactive map of organizations, and a system for collecting analytical data on the current needs and geographical location of the community.

These initiatives are aimed at preserving and developing the cultural, linguistic, and organizational capacity of Ukraine's national communities—priorities that the Federation systematically supports in its activities.
