Vyshyvanka Day is a holiday dedicated to preserving the traditions of Ukrainian national dress. For Ukrainians, the embroidered shirt is not just an element of national dress, but a symbol of resilience, unity across generations, spiritual strength, and love for the homeland. That is why, on this day, a special atmosphere of warmth, support, and unity prevailed in the humanitarian centers of Donetsk Oblast.

Humanitarian hubs and centers, established for residents of the Donetsk region in safe areas of Ukraine, organized and held numerous creative workshops, entertainment events, flash mobs, interactive fun games, quizzes, and quests for children and adults, all dedicated to Ukrainian traditions and folk symbols.

Numerous workshops on making embroidered shirts, amulets, and creating appliqués became a true celebration for the young artisans, bringing them joy and happy moments of creativity. The children learned the basics of embroidery and came together around a shared cultural goal—to preserve and promote Ukrainian traditions—while adults created a jigsaw puzzle map of Ukraine as a reminder that we remain united.

Photo sessions at the themed photo zones set up for Vyshyvanka Day allowed residents of Donetsk Oblast to capture vivid moments and memories, show off their vyshyvankas, and join in the celebration of Ukrainian culture.

During the informational sessions and meetings titled “Symphony of Ornament,”  “Vyshyvanka Day Unites Ukrainians,” “Vyshyvanka—A Talisman Created by the Heart,” “Ukraine—The Land of Vyshyvankas,” “Vyshyvanka—The Nation’s Code,” “My Embroidered Ukraine,” “The Embroidered Shirt—A Talisman of Destiny,” the literary gallery “Colors of Ukrainian Destiny,” and the literary-poetic mosaic “I’ll Put on My Vyshyvanka and Hold It Close to My Heart,” participants learned about the distinctive features of vyshyvanka embroidery, the symbolism of the Donetsk region, the history of the holiday, and the significance of the patterns and colors of our national attire.

At the festive and educational events “The Embroidered Shirt: Beauty and Fairy Tale,” “Secrets of the Ukrainian Embroidered Shirt,” “And the Ukrainian Vyshyvanka Blooms Over the World,” “The Vyshyvanka Unites Hearts,” and “The Vyshyvanka—Code of the Nation, Guardian of the Soul,” children enthusiastically participated in flash mobs, educational discussions, contests, quizzes, and games, and created appliqué art.

Visits to the Museum and Educational Center in Vinnytsia, the Museum of Carpathian Art in Ivano-Frankivsk, the Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum, and the Ternopil Local History Museum provided a wonderful opportunity for the people of Donetsk to experience Ukrainian culture: exploring an exhibition of vytynanky, vyshyvanky, and rushnyky, and discovering the enchanting world of authentic Ukrainian culture.

Representatives of humanitarian hubs and centers, together with residents of Donetsk Oblast, have also actively joined the regional cultural and artistic campaign “Embroidered Donetsk Oblast – 2026,” in which communities across the region are creating unique embroidered shirts that reflect the region’s history, traditions, and modern resilience.

On Embroidered Shirt Day, everyone comes together for peace in Ukraine and to honor our people’s cultural heritage.

A beautiful day, wonderful events, happy faces, amazing outfits, and children’s smiles!

Festive events at the humanitarian hubs have once again proven that even far from home, the residents of Donetsk Oblast preserve their traditions, support one another, and pass on their love for Ukrainian culture to their children.

Today, the embroidered shirt is the nation’s emblem, a symbol of unity and faith in Ukraine’s victory.
