As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” an informative online event titled “The Vyshyvanka as a Symbol of the Nation” was held to celebrate Vyshyvanka Day. The event brought together library professionals from the Toretsk, Kaniv, and Ruzhyn communities around shared Ukrainian values, traditions, and cultural heritage.

The online format served as a true bridge of unity, allowing communities—despite distance and the challenging circumstances of today—to feel support, spiritual closeness, and a shared sense of tradition.

During the thematic segment “Region Code,” library professionals presented the embroidered shirts of their regions, discussing the distinctive features of the patterns, colors, and symbols incorporated into the embroidered shirts. Participants modeled their embroidered shirts on camera and shared personal stories connected to family heirlooms, the memory of generations, and a love for Ukrainian culture.

The poetic verses about the embroidered shirt, recited by the librarians, were particularly moving. Excerpts from poems, filled with warmth, pride, and the indomitable Ukrainian spirit, became yet another symbol of unity and a reminder that the embroidered shirt is not merely clothing, but a true national emblem embodying the history, strength, and soul of the Ukrainian people.

The event took place in a sincere and friendly atmosphere, giving participants positive emotions, new acquaintances, and a sense of unity. Such gatherings prove once again that Ukrainian culture has the power to unite people, inspire, and support them even in the most difficult times.
