Today, Bakhmut lives on not only in memories. It lives on in the people who maintain a connection to their hometown through their actions, support, and shared victories.
The “Legion Bakhmut” soccer team, whose story began in Bakhmut, has brought together young men from Bakhmut, Mariupol, and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Despite all the challenges they’ve faced, even after being forced to relocate, they continue to pursue their passion, support one another, and reach new heights together.
Recently, the team won the Diamond League Cup in the 11×11 format. The final match was interrupted several times by air raid alerts, but “Legion Bakhmut” managed to secure the victory: 3–2 against “Katran.” This is a testament to their character, resilience, and teamwork.
“Legion Bakhmut” is currently continuing its run in the soccer league, with matches taking place every weekend. Ahead lie new opponents, new challenges, and new opportunities to prove themselves.
For these young men, soccer is much more than just a game. It’s about friendship, unity, support, and the chance to stay connected to their homeland.
