Maria Andriiivna was born in 1925. She lived all her life in the Donetsk region in the small town of Bilozerske. She lived through the difficult times of the Second World War, escaped from captivity twice, managed to survive and return home. Then everything was like everyone else: a family, a favorite job, plans and dreams of a quiet old age.
However, it did not happen as expected. In recent years, his hometown has remained relatively quiet for a long time. But nearby, in neighboring settlements, there was constant shelling. The turning point was the day when there were 11 arrivals in Bilozerske at once. Maria Andriyivna's daughter realized that it was dangerous to stay at home.
A chance for rescue for the two elderly women was a chance meeting with representatives of the Proliska Humanitarian Mission. They immediately responded: they came to the apartment, helped them pack the necessary things and immediately organized the evacuation.
The family is currently staying in the transit center in Pavlohrad, looking for a place to live. In the meantime, a social worker from Proliska in Poltava, which is supported by UNHCR Ukraine, the United Nations Refugee Agency in Ukraine, is helping the women with minor household issues and solving urgent problems.
Due to the change of place of residence, Maria Andriyivna will not be able to receive her pension at the Belozersk branch of Ukrposhta as before. Therefore, the benefactors organized a visit to the transit center by specialists who carried out the procedure for re-registering pension payments and opening a card account on the spot.
Despite all the challenges, the 100-year-old woman has not lost faith in people. Her story is a reminder that it is never too late to start a new chapter in life if there are those who are ready to lend a helping hand.
