On May 24, an exhibition titled "From Thread - Memory, From Ashes - Beauty" took place at the Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum, featuring works by the artist from Donetsk region, Hanna Matsko. The event was organized with the support of the public organization "Embroidered Wonder."
Deputy Mayor of Novohrodivka, Olha Sydorova, expressed her support for the artist at the exhibition opening and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting elements of intangible cultural heritage. Among the guests was also the honored figure of Ukraine, director of the Bukovinian Center for Culture and Arts Mykola Shkriblyak.
The exhibition showcased about 60 author dolls-motankas, some of which Hanna Matsko brought from the temporarily occupied territory. These works exemplify the careful preservation of cultural identity in wartime conditions.
Hanna Matsko, head of the Novohrodivka basic club institution of Mykolaiv rural club, has been making motanka dolls for over 15 years. During this time, the artist has created more than a thousand original works. Her works are distinguished by a technical feature - a household brush is used as the base for each doll. All motankas have unique headwear, which adds individuality and depth to the products.
The artist's dolls have already been presented in several countries around the world, including Spain, Portugal, Canada, and the USA. Some of her works are sent to relatives and friends abroad, contributing to the popularization of Ukrainian traditional toys outside the country.
The presentation of the exhibition in Chernivtsi was another step in preserving and supporting the cultural identity of communities in Donetsk region. Such initiatives are of great importance for supporting cultural activity in regions temporarily displaced due to the war and for preserving elements of Ukraine's intangible cultural heritage.
This exhibition is an example of how, even in the most difficult times, despite the loss of home and danger, Ukrainian culture lives on and inspires.
