On the occasion of Defenders of Ukraine Day, the Museum of the Modern Russian-Ukrainian War in Dnipro hosted the cultural and artistic event «Art Unification» in conjunction with the Regional State Administration’s Department of Veterans Affairs.
During the event, participants discussed the symbolism and significance of the image of Cossack Mamai — a unique symbol of the Ukrainian Cossacks, who embodies the strength of a warrior, the wisdom of a philosopher, and the depth of a folk singer’s soul. Immersion in the historical and cultural context of the symbolism of Mamai’s image, which embodies the ideals of the Ukrainian people, formed over centuries of struggle for freedom. Mamai is a symbol of freedom, dignity, and spirituality, and his figure in folk art personifies calmness and readiness to defend his native land.
The practical part of the master class consisted of creating original images of Mamai on shopping bags.
As a result of their creative work, each participant created their own unique product. Each bag with the image of Mamai became a kind of talisman and a reflection of personal feelings — memory, strength, gratitude, and hope.
The master class not only provided an opportunity to engage with a traditional Ukrainian symbol, but also served an important art therapy function — it helped participants find inner balance, feel support, and express their emotions through creativity.
