The Donetsk Regional Council is pleased to announce the winners of the regional selection round for the "Order of St. Panteleimon" award for the 2025–2026 season.
Donetsk Oblast has always been a land of strong people, and the region’s medical community consists of true pillars who bear the nation’s health on their shoulders even in the most difficult times.
This year, the region is represented in the “Innovator of the Year” category for the “Order of St. Panteleimon” award by Valeria Rom—a surgeon, clinical oncologist, and head of the operating room at the Regional Territorial Medical Association, whose work has become a symbol of the combination of professional skill and a modern approach to treatment in a frontline region.
Valeria Rom’s personal and professional journey is inextricably linked to her native region. Born in Sloviansk, she began her studies in Luhansk, but due to the war, she completed her medical education in Kharkiv. However, her heart as a doctor brought her back home to Donetsk Oblast, where she has dedicated herself to saving lives for over 10 years.
The implementation of a comprehensive care cycle that combines radical treatment with aesthetic rehabilitation of patients, thanks to the latest high-tech equipment, ensures the high effectiveness of Valeria Rom’s surgical interventions.
She specializes in oncoplastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeries of the breast, skin, and soft tissues. She actively uses targeted therapy and immunotherapy to specifically target tumors.
Since 2025, she has headed the surgical department, ensuring team coordination and the implementation of quality standards in surgical procedures.
Valeria Rom is guided by the principle of combining oncological safety with excellent aesthetic results. Her work is a daily example of humanity and dedication to the innovative development of medicine in the Donetsk region, even despite difficult working conditions and constant danger.
Her participation in the competition for the “Order of St. Panteleimon” is a recognition that the future of Ukrainian medicine lies with young professionals who combine scientific progress, surgical skill, and boundless empathy for every patient.
Let’s support our colleague and the outstanding doctor of Donetsk Oblast on her path to the “Medical Oscar”!
