The Lyman and Tyachiv communities held a joint event titled “Easter Egg of Unity”

Published 09 April 2026 year, 15:26

As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” a joint online event titled “The Pysanka of Unity” brought together students and teachers from the Lyman and Tyachiv communities.

The event took the form of a creative online meeting and master class, during which participants had the opportunity not only to learn about Easter traditions but also to create their own pysanky using the wax-resist technique.

During the meeting, students from Lyman Lyceum No. 5, together with art teacher Nataliia Kolesnyk, presented the distinctive features of pysanka art from various regions of Ukraine. In particular, they highlighted the traditions of the east, where pysankas are characterized by a subdued color palette and clear patterns. Participants learned about the symbolism of colors and patterns, which have long held deep meaning and conveyed good wishes.

The sixth-graders’ presentations were informative and insightful as they explained the meanings of traditional patterns—oak leaves, roses, and maple leaves—which symbolize strength, life, harmony, and the unity of generations.

A special atmosphere was created by a master class led by Tamila Ivanivna, an instructor from Tyachiv Lyceum No. 2. Under her guidance, participants had the opportunity to experience the ancient art of pysanka painting and feel like true creators.

During the event, participants also viewed virtual exhibitions of Easter eggs from both lyceums. Yulia Kucheruk, an educational coordinator at Lyman Lyceum No. 5, led an informative quiz titled “Easter Traditions of Ukraine,” which added an interactive element to the event and captured the students’ interest.

The meeting concluded with an interactive reflection activity titled “Map of Unity,” which symbolically brought together students from different parts of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of shared values.

Despite the distance, the participants were once again convinced that Ukrainians are united by shared values, traditions, and a love for their native culture.
