The Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History organized a cultural and educational event titled “Journey Through Museums: Artifacts and Their History.” The event was attended by students from the Zvanivka and Kurakhiv communities.
Yuriy Koval, head of the Scientific and Methodological Department for the Preservation of Archaeological, Historical, and Cultural Monuments at the Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History, brought the history of the region to life by displaying a bronze mirror from the Saltovo-Mayatskaya culture, a pot from the Zrubna culture featuring a calendar pictogram, and a burial mound near the village of Shakove, brought to life pages of their native region’s history. Special attention was given to how museums continue to operate amid the war to preserve the cultural heritage of the Donetsk region.
A highlight of the event was the presentation by Yaroslava Dedova, Deputy Director for Research at the Svyatogorsk State Historical and Architectural Reserve. Ms. Yaroslava presented a stone icon depicting “Saint Nicholas and the Seven Sleeping Youths of Ephesus” and spoke about the history of the Tsarino settlement. This provided a deeper understanding of the region’s spiritual connections.
The event will help participants gain a deeper appreciation of the origins of our identity and the important role museums play in preserving historical truth for future generations.
