Mariupol State University to hold round table on the work of frontline and displaced libraries

Published 10 March 2026 year, 16:09

Due to the full-scale war, the library sector faced a number of challenges. Security risks for people, destruction and theft of collections, preservation and training of personnel, digitization of documentary heritage, lack of material and technical resources — all these issues remain relevant in today's conditions.

Given the importance of preserving institutional memory and local identity in temporarily occupied and frontline territories, Mariupol State University, in cooperation with the Mariupol City Council and the Yaroslav Mudryi National Library of Ukraine, will hold a round table discussion entitled "Frontline and Displaced Libraries: Experience, Present, and Prospects."

The public discussion will bring together representatives of the library sector and government authorities, educators, writers, activists, media professionals, and the general public to discuss the existence and work of libraries that have been forcibly displaced or are located on the front line.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, personal stories, and their own vision for the future activities of library institutions, which continue to be a center of community cohesion in wartime.

The roundtable will take place on March 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., both online and offline in Kyiv. A link to the event will be posted on the Mariupol University Facebook page the day before the event. To participate, you must register in advance: https://forms.gle/JdawXUU6x8kkm1GC9
