Every year on August 24, all of Ukraine celebrates Independence Day. Residents and staff at the Bakhmut Psychoneurological Residential Care Facility, now located in Poltava Oblast, marked this holiday, which is not only a national holiday but also a symbol of unity, remembrance, hope, and faith in the future.
On the eve of the holiday, an artistic troupe from the Lebedyn City House of Culture in Sumy Oblast visited the facility with a concert program dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The audience sincerely thanked the director of the House of Culture and the performers for their wonderful performance and support during these difficult times.
The residents also created a greeting card reading, “Donetsk Oblast is Ukraine. Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!” On it, each resident signed their name and indicated their hometown in Donetsk Oblast—the place from which they were evacuated to Poltava Oblast and to which they dream of returning.
To mark National Flag Day, an online tour titled “National Symbols of Ukraine” was organized for the residents of the residential care facility, and in the evening, a Ukrainian Poetry Day event was held. During the event, the audience heard works by famous Ukrainian poets as well as poems by boarding school resident Lyubov Kobets.
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, the residents visited a themed exhibition at the Velykobudyshchanska Community Library, where they also participated in a quiz titled “The Country’s Birthday: Interesting Facts and Events.”
Despite all the challenges, we continue to live, create, remember, and believe. We believe that peace will come to Ukraine very soon.
Victory is near! Everything will be Ukraine!
