🔹Driving a car is one of the key elements of independence and mobility today, especially for veterans with disabilities. They have the opportunity to learn to drive for free in specially equipped cars, as the costs of training are covered by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
🔹Who is eligible
- War veterans
- Their family members
- Family members of deceased defenders of Ukraine who have disabilities (regardless of the cause) and have medical indications for driving vehicles.
🔹Where to get training
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, there are currently 16 specialized driving schools operating in 14 regions, 7 of which are based in educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
🔹How to apply
To receive free training, you must contact your local veteran policy department at your place of registered or actual residence (stay). Applications can be submitted in both paper and electronic form.
The department for veteran policy concludes a tripartite agreement on the provision of services with the war veteran or a member of his/her family and the driving school.

Driving lessons in adapted cars for veterans with disabilities are provided in accordance with the Veteran Policy Strategy until 2030 and as part of the flagship project "Barrier-Free Driving Schools" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine within the framework of the National Barrier-Free Strategy, which was created on the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska. The information campaign is being carried out by UNDP Ukraine within the framework of the project "Transformational Recovery for the Safety of People in Ukraine" with the financial support of the Government of Japan.
We would like to remind you that veterans with disabilities can receive compensation for car conversion. The maximum payment amount is up to 70,000 hryvnia.
