The International Day of Older Persons is not just a date on the calendar, but an opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of human attention, kindness, and support.

For the humanitarian hubs in Donetsk Oblast, caring for older adults is a vital component of the comprehensive support provided to residents of the region who have suffered from the war and forced displacement.

To mark the International Day of Older Persons, the humanitarian hubs and visitor centers hosted warm gatherings featuring engaging conversations and themed events with rich programs such as “Autumn Marathon of Life,” “Let’s Warm the Heart with Love,” “The Warmth of Autumn—The Warmth of Hearts,” “The Heart Knows No Age,” “The Privileges of the Golden Age,” “Wisdom That Unites Generations,” “The Warmth of Generations: Respect, Care, Gratitude,” “Grandmothers’ Gatherings,” “Age Is No Barrier to Communication,” creative workshops, master classes, informational sessions, and meaningful leisure activities.

During the events and gatherings, musical performances, games, and fun contests were organized, creating an atmosphere of joy; festive tea parties and lively dances proved that age is just a number; creative workshops that provided an opportunity to discover new talents; the exciting game “Name That Tune” and readings of poems by Ukrainian authors.

The guests felt the warmth of everyone’s hearts, had a wonderful time, enjoyed pleasant conversations, and shared memories and life stories over tea.

The greatest wealth of older people is their experience, wisdom, skills, invaluable knowledge, and sound advice, as well as their willingness to support and help others—they serve as worthy role models.
