Oleksandra Shakalova, a participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year – 2026” competition in the “Knowledge Leaders” category
Oleksandra Shakalova is a young physical education teacher who consciously chose the path of teaching from an early age. Today, she not only teaches students about healthy lifestyles and encourages their love of sport, but also helps them develop, discover their talents and maintain faith in the future.
Working remotely with students from the Bakhmut community, Oleksandra remains not only a teacher but also a mentor and motivator. For several years in a row, her students have won prizes in the regional web marathon “Donetsk Region in Sports,” as well as taken part in sports flash mobs, creative competitions and educational projects.
Since 2023, Oleksandra Shakalova has headed the “With Bakhmut in Our Hearts” educational hub in Kryvyi Rih. Together with colleagues and volunteers, she has created a safe and supportive space for displaced children. Here, children can take part in sports and creative activities, communicate with their peers and, at least for a while, regain a sense of a normal childhood.
Her story is an example of a modern Ukrainian teacher who, despite the war, continues to educate, support and inspire a new generation.
