In April 2025, 20-year-old Renata joined the team of the Sloviansk City Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross. She chose one of the most demanding areas of work—serving at a humanitarian aid distribution center.
Hundreds of people come here every day: internally displaced persons, residents of frontline areas, and those facing difficult life circumstances. The volunteers’ main task involves physically demanding and systematic work. Renata and her team unload trucks carrying food, sort clothing at the clothing bank, assemble hygiene kits, and distribute them to visitors.
Early mornings, physical exhaustion, and long hours of work are offset by the knowledge that they’re making a real difference for those in need. For Renata, it’s not just about material aid—human connection is just as important. Many visitors come simply to chat or unburden themselves, so a sincere conversation, a smile, and attentiveness provide them with significant emotional support.
Her colleagues appreciate Renata for her resilience, calmness, and kindness, and her enthusiasm creates a positive work atmosphere throughout the entire team. At just 20 years old, she proves that effective help doesn’t require special conditions or waiting for the right moment—all it takes is the desire to take action and be there for those who truly need it.
