Despite the temporary evacuation and difficult security conditions, the main capital of Donetsk Oblast remains its people. Today, the region's youth not only defend the country at the front, but also maintain the institutional framework of the region in relocation, laying the foundation for the future early restoration of the deoccupied territories.
The public organization "Nova Druzhkivka" together with the Youth Council under the Donetsk Regional State Administration, within the framework of the project "Code of Restoration: Youth Dimension of Donetsk Oblast" tells the stories of two young compatriots - Serhiy Yarovy and Serhiy Mozharovsky. They went through the hell of the defense of Mariupol and Russian captivity, and today they work to preserve the identity and managerial potential of Donetsk Oblast.
Mariupol's Educational DNA: Serhiy Yarovy's Veteran Politics
Mariupol State University (MSU) today functions in Kyiv as an institution, having fully preserved its internal structure and community. One of those who ensures the university's vital activity and helps others adapt is Serhiy Yarovy - an employee of the MSU Educational and Methodological Department, a veteran and laureate of the regional competition "Young Person of the Year - 2025".
Serhiy was born in the village of Konkove on the very border with the Russian Federation, later moved to Mariupol, where he headed the MSU Student Council and coordinated the work of the Youth Parliament. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he took up the defense of the city. After 2 years and 5 months of enemy captivity, Serhiy returned to his native university.
Civil Defense of Pokrovsky District: Security Algorithms of Serhiy Mozharovsky
While educators are forming an intellectual framework, the preparation of managerial capital continues in the relocated communities. Serhiy Mozharovsky, a native of the village of Ocheretinye, who also went through the defense of Mariupol and was captured, today works as a specialist in mobilization work, civil defense, and interaction with law enforcement agencies in the Ocheretinye village military administration.
His daily work is clear management at the junction of military discipline and civilian administration.
The new leaders of the region prove: early recovery does not begin after the end of hostilities, but already now - through the preservation of horizontal ties between people who were forced to leave their homes.
