On the eve of the Constitution Day of Ukraine, the Committee on the Establishment of Ukrainian Identity of the Youth Council under the Donetsk Regional State Administration organized an educational meeting for young people. The event took place in a hybrid format: 20 people gathered in a studio in Dnipro, and about 60 more participants joined online.
The event had a deeply patriotic and emotional character. It was opened to the sounds of the National Anthem of Ukraine - a symbol that unites millions of hearts.
“The right to life, freedom, dignity and independence of our state are defended every day by our defenders. Thanks to them, we have the opportunity to live, study, work and build the future,” the organizers emphasized.
Those present honored the memory of all the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine and civilians whose lives were taken by the war with a minute of silence.
Liliya Zolkina, Head of the Department of Family, Youth and Mass Events of National and Patriotic Education of the Regional State Administration, joined the event. She addressed the participants with warm words of support.
Liliya Zolkina noted that she was sincerely proud of the modern youth, who consciously chose Ukraine and, despite all the challenges and difficulties of the war, are working hard for its victory. She also emphasized how important it is to constantly develop, and emphasized that such meetings and live communication are extremely valuable for maintaining communication and exchanging experience.
During the historical excursion, the speakers destroyed the popular myth that Ukrainian democracy is "young." The participants delved into history and recalled the key milestones of Ukrainian constitutionalism:
1710 – Pylyp Orlyk’s Constitution: The document “Treaties and the Resolution of the Rights and Liberties of the Zaporozhian Army” appeared long before the US Constitution and the French Revolution. It laid the groundwork for progressive ideas for its time regarding the separation of powers and the limitation of hetman powers.
1996 – Historical Night: A real marathon of responsibility within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. After continuous heated discussions that lasted almost a day, on June 28 at 9:18 a.m., 315 people’s deputies voted “for” the adoption of the Fundamental Law.
The most discussed part was the “Article-Photo” block. The organizers showed articles of the Constitution on the screen (for example, on the right to life, freedom of speech, or inviolability of housing) and accompanied them with real photos of modern Ukraine. This helped to clearly see how legal norms are intertwined with the fate of people, especially in conditions of full-scale war, when these rights have to be defended every day.
To consolidate the material, the organizers held a driving express quiz "I Know My Constitution". Participants in the studio and online competed in knowledge of the intricacies of Ukrainian legislation and history. The most erudite experts who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded commemorative certificates.
At the end of the meeting, a small interactive session was arranged: everyone could approach the board with the inscription "For me, the Constitution is..." and add one word of their own. Most often, guests left the words: freedom, dignity, responsibility, law and unity.
