An online language quiz brought together communities in the Mariupol District and their partners

Published 27 October 2026 year, 16:52

On October 27, Ukrainian Writing and Language Day, an online language quiz titled “The Ukrainian Language in the Modern World” was held as part of the “Side by Side: United Communities” project.

The event brought together representatives from communities in the Mariupol District—Kalchitska, Sartanska, Mangushska, and Nikolskaya—and partner communities—Chyhyrynska and Solotvynska. Despite the distance, participants met online to celebrate their native language together, demonstrate their knowledge, and reaffirm that the Ukrainian language unites us regardless of where we are.

An exciting linguistic adventure awaited the teams, filled with intriguing questions, unexpected discoveries, and friendly competition. Participants tested their knowledge of the history of Ukrainian writing, navigated linguistic pitfalls, deciphered idioms, selected the correct Ukrainian equivalents, demonstrated their linguistic erudition, and recalled folk wisdom.

The interactive exercise “A Compliment to Our Native Language” was particularly heartwarming; during it, participants shared sincere words about the Ukrainian language in the chat, describing it as melodious, beautiful, rich, harmonious, and unique.

A special part of the event’s program was dedicated to expressing gratitude to the defenders of Ukraine. Those in attendance honored the memory of the fallen heroes, remembered the soldiers who are being held captive or are listed as missing in action, and expressed their support for their families. After all, it is thanks to the courage and resilience of Ukrainian soldiers that we are able to work, study, communicate in our native language, and preserve our national identity.

We sincerely congratulate the participants on their outstanding results and thank each team for their enthusiasm, perseverance, and love for the Ukrainian language!
