On October 27, 2026, the Donetsk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education brought together educators, students, and fellow Donetsk residents for the “Our Native Language Unites Hearts” celebration, dedicated to Ukrainian Literacy and Language Day. Despite the challenges and the fact that they live in different cities and countries, the people of Donetsk once again demonstrated their solidarity and unity.
Ihor Haievyi, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, and Deputy Director Yulia Burtseva addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.
As part of the program, Ukrainian language and literature teachers Yulia Mitina, Oksana Kidalova, Tetyana Glebova, Viktoria Ponomarenko, and Oksana Gryzodub led a spelling workshop titled “Language Intensive” for the participants. A live video conference was held with the Pokrovsk, Svyatogorsk, Kurakhiv, and Bakhmut communities, as well as the First Kramatorsk Lyceum.
Also during the event, the results were announced for the 11th regional festival “Seek Beauty, Seek Goodness!”, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Valerian Pidmohylny’s birth, for which 90 entries were submitted by 177 participants (35 of whom became finalists).
The highlight of the celebration was the joint writing of the National Unity Radio Dictation. After the dictation, participants joined the regional flash mob “Donetsk Region Writes the Radio Dictation”: they posted photos on social media with the caption “The warm heart of Donetsk Region beats in…,” adding the name of their city, town, or temporary place of residence, along with the hashtag #Донеччина_пише_радіодиктант.
And so, from many individual photos, a collective map has emerged: no matter where the people of Donetsk are, they write together in their native language.
We sincerely thank everyone who took part in the regional events celebrating Ukrainian Literacy and Language Day!
