This year, the All-Ukrainian vocational skills competition “WorldSkills Ukraine” has officially resumed in Ukraine. Despite the ongoing Russian aggression and the challenging conditions of martial law, the Department of Education and Science of the Donetsk Regional State Administration found a way to organize and hold the regional stage of the competition in one of the most difficult and high-tech skills—Mechatronics.

It took place on May 27, 2026, at the Donetsk National Technical University, which has relocated to Drohobych.

Igor Gayevy, Director of the Department of Education and Science, and representatives of the competition’s organizing committee addressed the participants with welcoming remarks and wishes for success.

The competition program combined theoretical and practical components. The professional tests were held in the fully renovated mechatronics and robotics laboratory at DonNTU using state-of-the-art FESTO equipment.

Two teams competed for the right to represent the Donetsk region:

* the DonNTU team – Illia Revutskyi and Vladyslav Sezonenko (supervisor – Mykhailo Overko);

* the Donbas State Machine-Building Academy team – Maksym Syrota (supervisor – Yurii Biloivanenko).

The participants demonstrated a high level of proficiency in integrating mechanics and electronics, controlling automated systems, and commissioning complex mechatronic systems in real time.

The teams’ skills were evaluated by a panel of experts comprising leading engineers and managers from industrial enterprises in the Lviv region and relocated companies. Representatives of vocational pre-higher education institutions in Drohobych served as independent experts.

Based on the results of the evaluation of the theoretical and practical modules, the team from Donetsk National Technical University secured a decisive victory. It is this team that has earned the right to represent the Donetsk region in the “Mechatronics” category at the national final stage of the competition.

Despite all the challenges of wartime, the Donetsk region demonstrates high educational and technological potential. We sincerely congratulate the winners, their coach, and all participants who are holding the educational and technological front of Ukraine today. We wish the DonNTU team success, inspiration, and victory at the national stage of the competition!
