Today, on Ukrainian Statehood Day, regional local history dialogues entitled “The role of libraries in preserving cultural heritage and supporting the community during the war” took place — a professional event that brought together libraries in Donetsk region around a common cause: preserving cultural heritage in wartime.
The event was organized by the Donetsk Regional Library for Children with the support of the Donetsk Regional State Administration as part of the local history project “Donetsk Region on the Map of Time.”
The seminar took the form of a live dialogue, co-creation, and presentation of practical cases. Participants — librarians from 13 territorial communities of the region (Mirnenska TG, Lyman TG, Slovianska TG, Vugledarska TG, Kramatorska TG, Mangushska TG, Toretska TG, Siverska TG, Pokrovska TG, Novodonetska TG, Selidivska TG, Khlibodarsk TG, Konstantinovsk TG) presented their own current initiatives, shared methods of local history work, and talked about events and initiatives that support communities during the war.
During the meeting, specialists from the Donetsk Regional Library for Children presented the creation of an online platform — a digital archive of local history information, which libraries in the region will be able to fill with their own materials: from photographs and documents to oral histories and memories, folklore, and descriptions of current events.
Preserving historical memory is a powerful tool for unity, a source of strength and resilience, and a foundation for the future. It is important to spread it and pass it on to future generations along with the truth that is being created today.
