Donetsk Region to Discuss the Preservation of Historical and Architectural Heritage

Published 14 April 2026 year, 13:31

The war poses unprecedented challenges to our memory and identity. The destruction of archaeological sites and the loss of cultural monuments require immediate documentation and expert analysis.

On April 27, the Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History is organizing an online seminar dedicated to current issues in the study and protection of historical and archaeological sites threatened by hostilities. The event will serve as a platform for bringing together researchers, heritage conservationists, and government officials.

Key topics for discussion:

  • Extent of losses: analysis of the state of the archaeological heritage of eastern Ukraine.
  • Architectural resilience: challenges in preserving sites in the Donetsk region.
  • Environmental dimension: the impact of war on the cultural landscape as a unified system.
  • Digital solutions: the application of modern technologies for remote monitoring and documentation of damage.

The event begins at 10:00 a.m. Registration is required (by 3:00 p.m. on April 26): https://forms.gle/HUpzqHTr6ZzycpJx8

A link to the meeting will be sent to registered participants.

Among the invited speakers at the event:

  • Roman Lytvynenko – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor at Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University;
  • Oleksiy Gubanov – Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor at the Donetsk National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, member of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.

Preserving our history today is the key to restoring national consciousness tomorrow. We invite the academic community, cultural figures, and civic activists to engage in active dialogue.
