Accessibility discussed in Donetsk Oblast through documentary film

Published 29 May 2026 year, 17:50

On 29 May, as part of National Accessibility Week and with the support of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, an open discussion entitled ‘Accessibility in Everyday Life’ took place. Professionals from the fields of culture, education and youth work joined an online screening of the documentary “Karla and Nordal” by Norwegian director Elisabeth Aspelin. The screening was organised with the support of the Docudays UA film club network.

Following the screening, a discussion took place on the topic of accessibility as a vital component of modern society. Participants reflected on the fact that accessibility is not merely about the physical accessibility of spaces, but also about openness to diversity, respect for human dignity, and a willingness to understand and support one another.

During the meeting, the importance of creating an accessible environment in all spheres of life – from education and culture to everyday communication – was emphasised. Particular attention was paid to the role of every individual in building a society where everyone has equal opportunities to participate in public life, regardless of age, health status or other characteristics.

Participants noted that open discussion of accessibility helps to better understand the needs of others, overcome prejudice and foster a culture of mutual respect. Such meetings draw public attention to important social issues and help to promote the principles of accessibility.
