On December 5, a meeting was held on ensuring the rights and freedoms of internally displaced persons. The event was chaired by Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The event was attended by Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Shevchenko, Head of the Council on Internally Displaced Persons at the Donetsk Regional State Administration, as well as heads of structural units of the Regional State Administration.

Participants discussed important aspects of improving state policy on support for displaced persons and mechanisms for strengthening their social protection. In particular, they considered issues such as increasing the level of remuneration for social workers, improving the process of calculating compensation payments to IDP veterans, developing compensation mechanisms for citizens who repair damaged housing at their own expense, and facilitating IDPs' access to compensation for consumed utilities.

Special attention was paid to nursing care, improving the Winter Support program, and expanding the capabilities of IDP councils.

They also discussed improving the mechanism for preferential mortgage lending, increasing payments for socially useful work of a social nature, and updating the procedure for compensation for housing damaged or destroyed as a result of hostilities.

Based on the results of the meeting, proposals were developed for further decisions aimed at strengthening social protection for citizens affected by armed aggression.

The joint work of central and regional authorities allows for the formation of effective mechanisms to respond to the needs of internally displaced persons and to systematically improve state support instruments.
