Cybersecurity for children: how to protect yourself on the Internet

Published 06 December 2025 year, 13:13

Within the framework of the All-Ukrainian campaign "16 Days Against Violence", the Donetsk Regional State Administration focuses on the importance of children's digital safety. Modern teenagers grow up in an environment where the Internet is an integral part of learning, communication and leisure.

However, along with the opportunities, the online space contains risks, including cyberbullying, fraud, the spread of harmful content and the threat of sexual violence. Therefore, the issue of protecting children on the Internet remains a key component of violence prevention.

It is important for adults to explain to children that the Internet is an open environment where any published information may become accessible to third parties. The address of residence, phone number and other personal data should remain confidential. For security, it is necessary to use complex passwords and not share them with others.

Communicating with strangers online should not differ from the rules of conduct in real life - do not enter into a dialogue, do not send photos and do not agree to meet.

Children should learn to perceive information critically, not trust dubious messages and not follow suspicious links. This is one of the main ways to combat fraud and manipulation on the network.

Special attention should be paid to the problem of cyberbullying. Insults and threats on the Internet are dangerous and cause harm just as much as in everyday life. In the event of bullying, a child should keep evidence, report the situation to adults and block the offender. Support from family and school is crucial.

Digital technologies open up new opportunities for children, but they require responsible use. The formation of digital literacy is a joint task of parents, teachers and society.

Only by joining forces can we create a safe online space in which children will develop and confidently build their future.
