On May 27, 2026, as part of National Accessibility Week, an online seminar was held for representatives of local communities in Donetsk Oblast on the topic: “An Accessible Society—Plans, Requirements, Actions.” Members of the regional Accessibility Committee joined the participants.

Specialists from the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture of the Regional State Administration drew the attendees’ attention to current regulatory documents and presented the results of measures implemented in the first quarter of 2026 under the National and Regional Action Plans for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment as part of the implementation of the Barrier-Free Strategy in Donetsk Oblast.

The seminar covered the flagship projects of ministries currently being implemented in Ukraine, as well as the formation of a network of accessibility ambassadors and accessibility officers. Particular attention was paid to the monitoring of accessibility. Marina Buryak, head of the Department of Architecture and Construction Control at the Selidovo City Council, shared her experience regarding ensuring the accessibility of buildings for relocated institutions.

The discussion also highlighted the urgent issue of accommodating residents with limited mobility in the region during the evacuation process, which requires further consideration.
