The meeting discussed current challenges to the health of the region's residents, as well as areas in which the regional public health system should continue to develop.

During the Council meeting, three key issues were discussed:

  • "Major challenges for public health in the Donetsk region. Non-communicable diseases and their burden on society," reported by Marina Bilousova, Deputy Director General for Control and Prevention of Non-communicable Diseases at the Donetsk Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention;

  • "Mental and psychosocial support for the region's population," reported by Iryna Kyslytska, expert of the Department of Health of the Regional State Administration on mental health and psychosocial support for residents of the Donetsk region.

During the discussion, participants shared their views on how to more effectively combine the efforts of the healthcare system, education, and local authorities so that community residents could reap real benefits from decisions made at the regional level.

Based on the results of the presentations, the Council members developed a number of proposals and agreed on the next steps to be taken. Based on these developments, a protocol decision was prepared. This protocol, approved by the Council Chairman, First Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Yuriy Vinokurov, will be sent for implementation to Council members and heads of city military administrations in Donetsk region.

The Council meeting became not only a platform for discussing problems, but also a starting point for concrete actions aimed at strengthening public health in the region.
