On May 11, 2026, as part of National Accessibility Week and at the initiative of the Donetsk Regional Educational and Methodological Center for Culture, a regional seminar titled “How to Work with Veterans and Understand Their Needs: Talking Without Barriers” was held, bringing together over a hundred representatives of Donetsk’s cultural sector. The event was organized with the support of the Donetsk Regional State Administration.

Today, the cultural sector plays a vital role in creating a space of support, mutual understanding, and social adaptation for veterans and people with disabilities. That is why the main goal of the seminar was to provide informational and methodological assistance to industry professionals, discuss modern approaches to organizing cultural and artistic events, and foster a barrier-free environment in Donetsk region’s cultural hubs.

During the event, participants discussed key issues regarding an inclusive approach to cultural and leisure activities, the importance of barrier-free language, and the creation of an atmosphere of equality and respect in communication. Special attention was given to the practical aspects of working with veterans and people who require special support.

Specialists from the “Donbas-Prykarpattia” Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for People with Disabilities conducted a training session for participants titled “Speaking Without Barriers,” which focused on the importance of proper communication, sensitivity, and overcoming social stereotypes.

Kristina Zborlyukova, head of the Department of Management and International Cooperation at the Bukovyna Center for Culture and Arts, shared her practical experience in creating a cultural space for veterans. The speaker spoke about initiatives aimed at supporting veterans through cultural events, creativity, and shared communication.

Promoting accessibility and ensuring equal access to cultural services remain key priorities of state policy. Cultural professionals in the Donetsk region continue to enhance their professional competencies to ensure that the cultural space is open, accessible, and comfortable for everyone.
