Accessibility means being able to be heard, realise your potential, participate in public life and feel equal among others. It was this very idea that was central to the ‘Flower of Unity’ workshop, organised by the State Historical and Architectural Reserve Administration in Sviatohirsk as part of National Accessibility Week. The creative gathering took place in Boryspil for internally displaced persons from Donetsk Oblast, providing them with a space for support, care and genuine communication during a difficult time for the country.

During the event, participants learnt about the basics of accessibility, its significance in modern society, and the importance of creating an open environment where everyone has the opportunity for communication, development and self-fulfilment, regardless of their life circumstances.

The practical part of the workshop was dedicated to creating protective amulets in the shape of a poppy flower. In ancient Ukrainian beliefs, it served as a powerful protection against all evil, symbolising the infinity of the universe, blossoming, and the indestructible power of life, capable of being reborn again and again. This symbolic amulet embodied the belief in a peaceful future for Ukraine, resilience, and the warmth of human hearts.

The joint art therapy session helped to create an atmosphere of trust and support, provided psychological relief and brought the participants closer together. The masterclass was a wonderful example of the practical application of the principles of inclusion, proving that, despite all the trials, Ukrainians continue to support one another and build a future together, breaking down any barriers.
