Veronika Matskiv - participant of the regional contest "Woman of Donetsk Region" in 2025, nomination "Leadership in Action"
At a time when the challenges of war are being overcome every day, Kramatorsk is holding on thanks to people who do not betray their mission. One of them is Veronika Matskiv, Head of the Department of Youth Policy and Family Affairs at the Humanitarian Affairs Department of the Kramatorsk City Council.
She was born and raised in Kramatorsk, studied to be an oligophrenic teacher, and later dedicated herself to protecting those who need the most support. It was on her initiative that a Day Center for Social and Psychological Assistance to Victims of Domestic Violence with a crisis room was established in 2023. In 2024, a Mobile Brigade to help victims and counseling centers in starosta districts appeared.
Today, when the city is living in frontline conditions, Veronika remains in the community and continues her work. Together with her team, she supports women, children, and youth, and creates new assistance services in cooperation with NGOs and international partners.
Her strength lies in her resilience and ability to unite. She is constantly learning on her own, attending trainings on gender equality, combating domestic violence and human trafficking, sharing her knowledge with colleagues and inspiring young people to believe in change.
"It is the greatest happiness to see a woman or child who has experienced fear feel safe again," Veronika says.
"Her story is about integrity, mutual assistance and courage. It is about leadership that is not measured by positions or awards, but by daily actions that change people's lives even in the most difficult times.
