As part of the nationwide project “Side by Side: United Communities,” educators from the Toretsk community, together with teachers from the Ruzhyn community, participated in a professional development retreat titled “Balance and Safety: The Educator as a Resource.”
The event served as an important platform for professional dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and the strengthening of partnerships between the communities. During the introductory session, participants had the opportunity to establish open communication, get to know one another better, and feel the power of unity within the teaching community.
The practical part of the retreat focused on restoring teachers’ inner resources and developing self-care skills. Participants completed exercises that helped them recognize their own capabilities, identify sources of support, and outline steps to maintain emotional balance in today’s environment.
Special attention was given to issues of psychological support in the workplace. Teachers discussed factors contributing to professional burnout, familiarized themselves with approaches to implementing psychosocial support policies, and participated in creating a “Teacher Resource Map.”
An important component of the retreat was working on developing stress resilience. Participants mastered the “STOP-Emotion” practice and performed exercises aimed at harmonizing various areas of life.
During the closing segment of the event, participants discussed the importance of flexible thinking as a key competency for modern educators, as well as the importance of mutual support, humanity, and inner values. Through metaphorical exercises, participants reevaluated their own life priorities and the role of inner strengths.
The event once again confirmed that our strength and the guarantee of the educational community’s resilience lie in unity, mutual support, and collective action.
