On May 26, 2026, as part of National Accessibility Week, the Donetsk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education held a professional workshop titled “Education in Donetsk Region: A Barrier-Free Space.” About 300 educators from the region participated in the event.

During the meeting, participants discussed modern approaches to creating an accessible, inclusive, and psychologically safe educational environment for children with special educational needs in the context of war and distance learning.

Participants were presented with practical experiences from communities and educational institutions in Donetsk Oblast regarding the organization of psychological and pedagogical support for children, the development of inclusive education, the adaptation of educational practices to students’ needs, as well as support for educators and families.

Representatives from the Education Department of the Dobropillia City Council, the “Dyvosvit” preschool unit of Pokrovsk Educational Complex No. 1, preschool institutions in the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad communities, inclusive resource centers in the Pokrovsk and Illinivsk communities, the Dobropil Center for Professional Development of Educators, as well as the Novozhelanivka and Sloviansk special schools of the Donetsk Regional Council.

The participants paid particular attention to issues of psychological accessibility, the use of digital technologies to support children with special educational needs, the development of partnerships between regions, and ensuring high-quality distance learning.

During the professional workshop, it was emphasized that accessibility in education is not only about physical accessibility, but above all about equal opportunities, support, respect for the needs of every child, and the creation of an environment in which all participants in the educational process can feel confident and safe.

The event served as a platform for professional dialogue, the exchange of experiences, and the search for effective solutions for the development of inclusive education in the Donetsk region.
